GIS/CAD TECHNICIAN

Location: Deeside

?Due to expansion, we have a vacancy for an experienced GIS / CAD Technician to join our Land Services team based in Deeside.  The successful candidates will be joining a busy team who consistently deliver high quality mapping support on a wide variety of schemes from external capital projects to internal customer work.

The main duties will include:

  • Using AutoCAD Map & QGIS to provide mapping support to all businesses within Freedom;
  • Digitising data from numerous sources for both small & large scale projects;
  • Production of land referencing and other plans;
  • Audit/quality check the work carried out by other staff within the team, provide feedback and report findings to the drafter and the Manager;
  • Effectively manage workload to deliver to time, cost and quality targets.

Requirements:

  • Substantial experience in the use of GIS software to produce maps and plans is essential, ideally AutoCAD Map & QGIS but others will be considered.
  • Knowledge of data management techniques, ideally including conformance to metadata standards.
  • Attention to detail is paramount; candidates must be able to produce outputs which meet strict QA guidelines.
  • Candidates should ideally be educated to degree standard in a relevant geomatics discipline or other with a strong GIS emphasis.

Desirable experience (to be considered for a Senior GIS/CAD Technician role):

  • Experience in working with databases such as MS Access and SQL server.
  • Knowledge and experience of translating between coordinate systems especially onshore and offshore variations around the UK
  • Experience in GIS Strategies to supply all staff with desktop access to relevant data and to launch a web based, publicly accessible version;
  • The ability to develop routines for automation, geo-Processing analyse of geographical data.
  • Experience in the development of solutions using ESRI technologies including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server and ArcObjects, C#, SQL Server, SQL, html, Python and open source GIS (e.g. OpenLayers, GeoNetwork, GeoServer, PostGIS & PostgreSQL, GeoExt, JQuery);
